A Hong Kong born Chinese, Eliza Wai Wa Cheng received her tertiary education in England. She has been painting since 1998, the year when she made a career turn from management consultancy to art. Having an upbringing in a traditional Chinese family, and a strong exposure to the western cultures throughout her education and career development, her contemporary art carries a blend of eastern and western cultural influence.
In the summer of 2011, she obtained an MFA in Painting with the Academy of Art University, San Francisco, California. Through delving into the subject of abstract painting during her years of study, the bodies of her art have embraced a major shift from representational roots to pure conceptual compositions and abstract expressionism. Eliza has had solo shows in Hong Kong. She also exhibits annually with an established art group composing of some international artists in which she has been the Treasurer and board member since 2002. She actively participates in various local community projects and artist-in-residency programs. Between 2011 and 2016, a few of her abstract art pieces won awards at different juried competitions. She has been doing commissioned work for private collectors as well as corporations. Eliza currently lives in Hong Kong where she teaches private art classes at her own atelier. With a management and education consultancy background, she also offers management advice to commercial companies, NGO, private schools and individual artists. Since December 2018, she has joined the Executive Committee of Hong Kong University Museum Society as a member.
